be動詞を主語の後ろへ戻そう
このレッスンの役割と目標
このレッスンは2 / 10、be動詞の語順を正確に整える段階です。前回は間接疑問内部が主語＋動詞になる原理を学びました。
目標は、where is she、why were they lateなどを、where she is、why they were lateへ直せることです。
おすすめの学び方
疑問詞は先頭に残し、その後ろのbe動詞と主語の位置だけを見ます。時制と単数・複数は変えません。
例題：位置だけを戻す
直接疑問：Where is the station?
「私は駅がどこにあるか知っています」の中へ入れます。
- 疑問詞whereを残します。
- 主語the stationを先に置きます。
- be動詞isを主語の後ろへ置きます。
I know where the station is.となります。

be動詞の形は保つ
Why were the students absent?を入れると、The teacher asked why the students were absent.です。
wereをwasへ変えません。直接疑問で持っていた過去・複数という情報は、そのまま主語の後ろへ移します。
主語が長くても同じ
Where is the book that you borrowed?
主語はthe book that you borrowedという長い名詞句です。間接疑問では、I wonder where the book that you borrowed is.となります。
中心名詞bookとその説明を一まとまりにしてから、isを後ろへ置きます。
よくある間違い
I don't know where the station is it.のように、元の主語と代名詞を重ねる間違いがあります。主語the stationはすでにあるため、itを足しません。
また、be動詞を消すのではありません。位置を主語の後ろへ戻すだけです。
自分で確かめよう
確認1：Do you know where is my bag?を直してください。
`Do you know where my bag is?`です。確認2：I wonder why were they angry.を直してください。
`I wonder why they were angry.`です。wereの過去・複数は保ちます。確認3：Can you tell me how tall your brother is?で、be動詞と主語を答えてください。
主語はyour brother、be動詞はisです。内側は普通語順です。まとめと次の一歩
be動詞の間接疑問では、疑問詞を残し、主語＋be動詞へ戻します。次は一般動詞の疑問で使うdo・does・didを外し、時制を一般動詞へ戻します。
